After being overweight to some degree my entire life, I have decided to have bariatric weight loss surgery. I’m not going to go into the how and why I’m having it done but my plan is to lose at least 100 pounds. I know I will be much healthier and live longer. I’ll try not to bore you and hope this blog is somewhat interesting.

OK, look away if you don’t want to see photos of my operation. Before taking me to the operating room, my surgeon was kind enough to ask me if I wanted photos of my insides. Well sure I did! How often does one get to see what they look like internally? After seeing them, the first thing that struck me was how different it looked from all the diagrams I have seen over the years. In the diagrams, everything is so neatly laid out. When I look at actual photos, it looks like all the organs simply got tossed in there in a big jumble. It’s amazing to me that the surgeon can even figure out what to cut and where, He did make a repair of an adhesion that occurred after I had my gallbladder out several years ago. He was surprised that it had not caused me some discomfort. I never knew it was there and it didn’t bother me at all.

I had a follow-up appointment with my surgeon today. Everything is going well. He said I can now have any type of liquid that will fit through a jumbo straw, I can also have light yogurt. So after my appointment, I stopped by Sam’s Club and bought two 12-packs of yogurt. What a small but great addition to my diet! I also bought several cans of tomato soup.

Anyhow, I feel great and I’m down about 10 from my surgery date. I’m also walking 1-2 miles each day now. I’m still looking forward to moving on to more of a normal diet but life is good.

I’ll be doing another video blog in a few days.

No, Roxicet is not some exotic dancer. Roxicet is the liquid form of Percocet or Oxycodone. My surgeon prescribed it for pain in my incision area. I’m not in a terrific amount of pain but it is uncomfortable. This liquid takes effect in within a few minutes after swallowing it. I can easily understand how someone could get addicted to this stuff. It takes the edge off my pain and gives an overall feeling of contentment. When it kicks in, my clothes could catch on fire and I might be too comfortable to do much about it. Continuing to watch TV is much easier than stop, drop and roll.
I am not one to abuse pain medication. I don’t even take aspirin or other pain reliever very often. I am a big fan of controlling pain when necessary.
The Roxicet will be gone in a few days and by then my soreness will likely be gone as well. Isn’t science wonderful?

Hey everyone! I’m actually back home now. I couldn’t upload the video at the hospital so I’m doing it now.
I feel very good. A few of the incisions are a little sore but that’s to be expected. The surgeon prescribed liquid Percocet for the pain. I slept like a baby last night in my first night home.
Right now, I’m just drinking clear liquids like water, Crystal Light, beef and chicken broth. I have to do that for about three weeks while everything heals up. After that, I move up to pureed foods and then start adding regular food.
My surgeon and hospital staff were great. Still, two days in the hospital are plenty for this guy.
